It is with great sadness that we report the recent death of Nigel Gordon while at home in Cumbria.
As many in Bickington will recall, Nigel and his wife Joanna played a very significant part as members of the Management Team in bringing the Village Hall on line from 2009 when it passed into Trust ownership. While Joanna excelled in the public relations area, Nigel was the Treasurer for three years and began an internet site for the Hall, and together they helped improve the Hallís material state to make it the vibrant centre it is today. Nigel was widely known for his public enterprise, notably as a member of the Dartmoor Search & Rescue Group and lately as a member of Age UK, and also in his self-made business of manufacturing and supplying balls to those playing the unique game of Fives. Sadly he suddenly became ill on 9th August while so engaged and died a little later that day.
Joanna, adapting to Cumbria life received quick support from the members of her and Nigelís families, and we send her our deepest condolences and best wishes for the weeks and months ahead. His funeral takes place at Beetham Hall Crematorium, Cumbria at 1200 on Tuesday 29th August, with a reception afterwards at the Wheatsheaf in Beetham. Donations instead of flowers please to the RNLI or to Blue Skies Hospital Fund, each in Nigelís name.
