The sun shone on Bickington's celebration marking the purchase of the church hall by the village trust. No one was left in doubt that this was a special day - the church bells rang for half an hour before the opening on Saturday afternoon. The Wag from Widecombe did the honours. Dressed in country attire, Tony Beard welcomed people in his broadest Devon dialect, then cut the ribbon. Trust member Joanna Gordon said: 'Both afternoon and evening evens went extremely well with a full hall of people on both occasions.
